Project Dumbphone
My switch to a flip phone, and what I hope to achieve.
It is about three days before my dumbphone arrives. I chose the Sonim XP3+ 5G (no camera). It is a flip phone with 5G and hot spot, has no camera, and authorized for AT&T’s first responder network, FirstNet. The other runners were Sonim XP5 which had a radio built in, or switching networks. I am trying to both save money and be less phone addicted. Switching networks was out of the question; I would have had to pay off my Galaxy Z Fold 6 (expensive), and my monthly line bill would be higher. FirstNet is only about 45 dollars a month if the phone is paid off.
I am planning on recording a video about the phone and my goals. Additionally, I think I would like to spend my first podcast episode on tech minimalism. We will find out together! I will be following it up with a 30, 90, and maybe 180 or 365 days review of using a dumbphone.
I won’t be completely techless, I have my iPad and laptop when I need them. I will be on attention sucking and engineered social media and devices less often. This contributes to better focus. I struggle with ADHD and building better habits. I hope it will help me connect more with my family and the people around me.
Please subscribe if you would like to keep up with my Journey! I am excited to embark and write about it. Have you considered going dumb? If so, and you did, why did you and do you prefer it? If you have considered it but did not switch, why not?
What benefits or consequences have you noticed since going dumb, or going back to smart from a dumb device? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this subject, it is very interesting to me. I will be praying a rosary for you, God Bless!
